Topography is the study of surface features (which can be applied to the Earth, moon, asteroids or planets). Originating in ancient Greece, the word topography gets its origin from the Greek words topos (meaning “place”) and graphia (meaning “writing”). In a broad sense, topography can refer to terrain, vegetative or man-made features, or even local history and culture (although generally in the U.S. it refers to terrain, specific landforms and three-dimensional features). Information gained from topographical study is important for civil engineering and for military planning and geological exploration. This unique globe highlights topographical features such as oceans, continents, countries, states, and major lakes, rivers and cities for your child or students. With a helpful activity guide, this is a great tool to have on hand for any social studies or earth science lesson!

WARNING: Choking hazard due to small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
