The name "pyrite" comes the Greek language and means "of fire". This is likely due to the sparks that are created when pyrite is struck against steel or flint. It is a type of iron sulfide, and is often found in quartz veins, sedimentary rock, and metamorphic rock, as well as in coal beds. Its metallic luster and brass-yellow hue contribute to it's nickname of "fool's gold" due to how it looks similar to gold. We can't guarantee that this piece of pyrite is worth thousands of dollars--but we can guarantee that this top quality pyrite chunk will be a worthwhile addition to any rock collector's collection! Great specimen for use in a classroom lesson on minerals, as part of a science fair project, and more!
Note: Each piece is irregularly sized and approximately 2-2.5 inches in length. Due to this being a natural substance, we cannot guarantee what size or style of pyrite will be sent to customer.
