Biography Ertan Salik is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Southern California, Department of Electrical Engineering-Electrophysics.

He received his B.S. in Physics from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1994, M.A. Physics in 1999 and Ph. D. Physics in 2001 both from the University of Southern California. He has conducted research on the photosensitivity of optical fibers, fiber gratings, and their applications in Optical Telecommunication and Sensor technology.

His current research interest is on laser diodes and their beam characteristics. With the advent of new wide-band gap laser diodes, in the future we will have CDs and DVDs with higher data density.

He is also involved with Dialog Foundation, a non-profit group with cultural and educational services. His other interests are education and especially science education, science and religion, effects of science on people's lives. Ertan is a member of a Charter School Development Team that is working on a Science-Math oriented Charter School (http://www.magnoliascience.org/) in Los Angeles.
