Ever wonder how movies are made? You might already know that movies are made of millions of individual pictures, but do you know why you don’t see each picture? When we look at an object its image will form on the retina in our eye and stay for 1/16 to 1/10 of a second. This phenomenon is called vision persistence. Movies are made based on this principle. The cameraman takes pictures of moving objects every 1/24 of a second. When the film is played at the same speed the audience will see exactly the same moving scenes on the screen.
Color addition is a fun experiment to do using vision persistence. Using the contact key, battery holder, motor and disc (which are all supplied in this kit), you can visualize how two different colors are changed when they are spinning at a fast rate of speed. Simply place one disc on the axle at a time, press the tap key and hold. As the disc spins a newly formed color will appear! One of the coolest experiments you can do with this kit is to add the disc that has a black and white pattern on it (known as Benham’s Wheel). When you slow the motor down you see color on the disc even though there are only black and white colors on the disc. This is an unexplained phenomenon; scientists are not sure why we see color on the disks! Can you figure it out? Experiment on your own with the four blank discs that are included in this kit. The fun is only limited by your imagination!

    -Battery Holder
    -Motor

-Disc with 3 colored lines (Orange, Yellow & Red)
