One typical type of gyroscope is made by suspending a larger rotor inside three rings called gimbals. Mounting each of these rotors on high quality bearing surfaces insures that very little torque can be exerted on the inside rotor. This means that when the inner wheel is rapidly spun, it will maintain it's direction, even if the outside framework of the gimbals changes.  It's a cool way to introduce elementary laws of physics to your students--and this massive gyroscope will ensure all the students will be able to see clearly what's happening!
