When the lights are low and the world is calm, we tend to search the sky and find the moon in many forms. The Moon Poster with Phases explores some of these forms and thoughtfully explains why we see this celestial body the way we do.

“From any location on Earth, the Moon appears to be a circle which, at any specific time, is illuminated to some degree by direct sunlight. Like the Earth, the Moon is a sphere which is always half lit by the Sun. As the Moon orbits the Earth, the illuminated half we see increases and decreases. During each lunar orbit (a lunar month), we see the Moon’s appearance change from not visibly illuminated, to partially illuminated through to fully illuminated, then back through to partially illuminated to barely visible again. Although this cycle is a continuous process, there are eight distinct and traditionally recognized stages, called phases. The phases designate both the degree to which the Moon is lit and the geometric appearance of the illuminated part. These phases of the Moon in the sequence of their occurrence, starting with the New Moon are featured on this poster.”

With informative pictures and information, The Moon Poster is sure to please!
