'So, you're sitting at your desk, singing the Greek alphabet to yourself when -- shame on you -- you get stuck on beta. Or maybe you made a total fool of yourself at a party by suggesting that a hexillion is ten to the twenty-fourth when, duh, we all know that a hexillion is ten to the twenty-first and a heptilion is ten to the twenty-fourth. Sounds like you need to brush up on your physics basics. Well, not to worry -- PhysLink has got you covered. They've got comprehensive research and education tools for physicists, educators, engineers, students and anyone else who lights up at the thought of Isaac Newton and company. Learn the history of physics from successes to some of the trials and tribulations the earliest physicists faced. Geatures include: Reference, Ask Experts, Software, Astronomy, History, New Theories, Editorials, Essays and more. There are forums for you to discuss math constants and the like with others like you. And in the Fun area you can read great quotes and find electronic postcards of Einstein to send to your friends. Buy physics toys and learning kits, too. One more thing -- Gamma! Gamma? Yeah, Gamma -- the third letter of the Greek alphabet, silly.' - Galaxy Online

Tech Sighting of the Day
Andover.net

July 28, 2000

Here is what they say about PhysLink.com:
'With school about to start again, here's a great site for students of the sciences. It's nice looking, but more than that, it's full of useful information and community for fans of Albert Einstein.

At Physlink one of the first things you'll see is the 'Question of the Day,' and a link to click on in order to find the answer. In the reference section, there are glossaries, Nobel prize information, periodic tables, math and physical constants, and nuclear and particle data.

There are also online forums, an 'ask the expert' section, job boards, teachers' club, and a cool pop-up scientific calculator. Keep this one bookmarked. ' - Tina Gasperson, editor TechSightings.com

Sounds Like A Physicist, Looks Like A Physicist, Tastes Like A ...

To call PhysLink a Yahoo! for Physicists would be a disservice to the physics resource. Yes, it's laid out in a similar portal/community format as the Yahoo! empire; yes, it started in the mid-90s as well (as a page on GeoCities, no less). PhysLink, however, still feels true to both its roots and its original intentions - to be the ultimate physics resource and community for physicists on the Web. Like most physicists we've met, it's crammed with useful, practical knowledge (everything from the latest science news to grad school advice), bedecked with scientific tools (easy references to constants and equations and a pop-up scientific calculator), and yet still willing not to take itself completely seriously (physics 'fun' to include three styles of Einstein e-cards you can send your friends). And with a more aesthetic, better organized design than previous iterations, it's even a classy dresser - which is more than we can say about most physicists.

Here is what they say about PhysLink.com:

'Educational material and research in physics, astronomy, and engineering are plentiful at this site. This site brings you information about gravitation, radiation physics, magnetism, thermodynamics, and classic mechanics. If you are in search of more basic reference material, you will also find the Greek alphabet, unit conversion, periodic tables, and decimal multiples. When you need a break from your research, send a free, virtual Einstein card or view some physics cartoons, jokes, of quotes.

'Every since that apple slammed by 13 year old noggen all those years ago, I've had a sincere interest in Physics; but much more intriguing is my passion for Astronomy. Let's face it, there really is much to learn about heaven and earth, and The Physlink Site may just be a great place to start. Get away from the stress and strain and spend some time at this great Website.'

Guide to Cyberspace Review
Net Reader - Canada's Website by the Thomson New Media, a division of Thomson Newspapers Canada
December 10, 1998 issue

'Billed as 'The Ultimate Physics Resource', PhysLink.com comes pretty darned close. Although it's essentially a portal site with links to physics jobs, companies, theories, departments, etc., what sets the site apart is its ability to capture a colorful characterization of the physics profession. A good example of this multidisciplinary approach is one of the site's recent cover stories, 'Science and Art', excerpted from Dr. Leonid I. Ponomarev's book The Quantum Dice. The essay uses clever analogies and examples to explore the intertwined nature of art and science, and considers how scientists can often be artists at heart - and vice versa. '

'This site [PhysLink.com] sells itself as 'the ultimate physics resource: physics links, search, reference, departments, jobs, societies, journals, history of physics, fun and more'. We've seen sites seeking to do this sort of thing before: but few containing such a wealth of information, and none in such gook looking and well organised packaging. Excellent.'

VPromote WAY COOL HOT SITE
SmartDesk
December 1997

'Even if your main interest isn't in the rarified atmosphere of academia, you should visit this site and look around. It was not what I expected. I had to make sure that I was at the right URL. What a nice surprise. A highly technical, focused site that doesn't look like it was designed by someone that was thinking about something else the whole time. This site sings. Makes you want to hang around and see what's up.

The web has taken off because it gives opportunity to so many to finally present their information with the style and caring they have always longed for. They love their subject matter and consider it exciting. It is what makes their world go 'round. They want to convey that feeling of excitement to the visitor.

When I see a site like PhysLink it stops me in my tracks. If there is information here that the site developers place such high value on that they would put in the extreme effort of designing a state-of-the-art visually beautiful and professionally structured site, than I just have to look a bit deeper and see what is happening here. Maybe my college classes would have taught me more if the instructors and professors had cared as much about physics as the creators of PhysLink.'
