Physics Instructor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Instruct community college physics courses to a diverse student population. Courses range from conceptual introductory physics to modern physics. Revise and develop curriculum as it relates to the discipline, including multicultural perspectives and contributions where appropriate. Design, prepare and teach hands-on laboratory activities involving computer analysis of data.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
2. Master's degree in physics, astronomy or astrophysics OR Bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy AND Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate degree in physics.
2. Commitment to and/or experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups.
3. Ability to clearly express complex ideas in oral and written formats.
4. Capacity to convey a sense of enthusiasm and excitement about physics and science in general.
5. Interest in and commitment to improving student persistence and success in physics.
6. Experience teaching calculus-based physics courses including laboratory courses at the introductory college level.
7. Currency, depth, and breadth of knowledge of physics.
8. Familiarity with the use and application of computers to physics and physics education.
9. Active membership in professional physics associations.

HIRING RANGE: $52,640-$86,454 annually plus benefits; actual placement is non-negotiable and is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
