1) EXPERIMENTAL GROUPS: Quantum Electronics (Lasers and development of
new micro and nanoscopies), Low Temperatures (superconducting materials
properties), Mechanic properties of polymers and composites, Image
Processing (recognition and processing optical methods), Plasma physics
(fusion and industrial plasmas), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (molecular
physics), Geophysics (geomagnetism and applied physics), Optics,
Elementary particle physics (external member of Fermilab´s experiments).
2) THEORETICAL GROUPS AND RESEARCH LINES: Condensed matter physics (strongly
correlated systems, quantum liquids, mesoscopics systems, condensed
systems), Statistical physics, Computational physics, Complex systems
physics and dynamical systems, Biophysics, Geophysics, Astrophysics,
Atmospheric physics, Plasma physics, Molecular physics, Atomic collisions,
Nuclear physics, Elementary particles physics, Quantum field theory,
Gravitation, Cosmology and Superstring theory, Fluids and Solar physics,
Classic Optics, Non linear Optics, Quantum Optics, Quantum Computation and
Electromagnetic waves and material media interactions.
LABORATORIES FOR TRAINING UNDERGRADUATE
STUDENTS: 1) basic courses in physics Mechanics, Optics,
Waves, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics facilities (allow for 7
groups of 3 students each working simultaneously) and 2)
advanced projects (i.e.; photonics, electronics). AVAILABLE MAIN RESEARCH
FACILITIES: 1) Low temperature physics: standard electronics,
sources, low noise amplifiers, cryogenic temperature controllers; a
helium purification and recovery system; helium liquefier (8 lt/hr);
two nitrogen liquifiers (5 l/hr each); closed cycle helium
refrigerator; optical cryostats; 9 Tesla superconducting
magnet and 2 Tesla electromagnet and accesories; high
pressure set ups: hydrostatic (12 kbar) and quasi
hydrostatic (200 kbar). 2) NMR: Bruker AM-500 Spectrometer. 3)
Plasma physics: X-ray and neutron source Plasma Focus facilities;
surface coating facilities. 4) Optics & lasers: femtosecond laser
facility; field enhancement scanning optical microscope and
optical tabletops. 5) Material Science: Dynamical Mech Thermal
Analizer. 6) Geophysics: geomagnetic and geoelectrical probe
stations. 7) Computing center: Sun, Digital, Sillicon Graphics,
PC-clusters. 8) Library: 1000 books, 1500 Master Thesis and 5000 journals. 9) Clean
room. 10) Precision machine shop.
