Areas:		  Research in Astrophysics, and Theoretical physiscs. Principal topics include Extragalactic Astronomy, Observational Cosmology and Theoretical Plasma Physics. All astronomers at the Department make intensive use of the astronomical facilities available in Chile.
Facilities:  The department has Linux and Unix copmputers to process and analyse the data.
